Here\nis the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/city-administrator\/Documents\/A2Zero%20Carbon%20Neutrality%20Strategy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plan itself<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/city-administrator\/Documents\/Sustainability%20and%20Innovations%20Budget%20and%20A2Zero%20Presentation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slide presentation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ctnvideo.a2gov.org\/CablecastPublicSite\/show\/2399?channel=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Missy Stults\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 videotaped presentation<\/a>\nto Council, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/ann-arbor\/2020\/03\/ann-arbor-unveils-1b-plan-to-go-carbon-neutral.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">M-Live article<\/a> about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typically there would be\nopportunities for members of the public to formally address the Council during\nthose meetings. With the shelter-in-place order, the best ways to communicate\nwith Mayor Taylor and City Council are through petition, email, phone, and\nsocial media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Please sign and circulate <a href=\"https:\/\/ecocenter.salsalabs.org\/petitionforannarborscarbonneutralityplan\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this petition<\/a> as widely\nas possible<\/strong>.\nThe petition is being circulated by the Ann Arbor Climate Partnership, a\ncoalition of environmental groups such as the Sierra Club, the Ecology Center,\nthe Huron River Watershed Council, and Interfaith Council for Peace &amp;\nJustice. We would like to have hundreds of signers on it to share with City\nCouncil as early as April 20, and no later than May 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Please contact City Council members\nand the Mayor<\/strong>\nto express your support for the plan and related budget and to stress the\nimportance of this plan, even during the COVID-19 emergency. <strong>If you live in Ann Arbor<\/strong> find email addresses and phone\nnumbers for your Councilpersons at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/city-council\/pages\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/city-council\/pages\/home.aspx<\/a>.\n<strong>If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t live in A2,<\/strong> you can\nstill contact Council and the Mayor at <a href=\"mailto:CityCouncil@a2gov.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CityCouncil@a2gov.org<\/a>.\nGreenhouse gases\ndon&#8217;t recognize city borders, and other communities are affected by the action\nor lack of action that Ann Arbor takes. As with the usual process, you must call right at\n8:00 a.m. on the day of the council meeting to get one of the ten allotted spots.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/citizensclimatelobby.us11.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5484818b4f22e53c93707f1f1&amp;id=07d00542bb&amp;e=c2a9e87757\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More\ninformation about public participation in virtual meetings here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More Information\nabout the Draft Plan:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will not be easy. Some of the plan\ncan be done by the City but <strong>much of it will require<\/strong> <strong>help from\nindividuals (such as us!) and groups (such as ones we are a part of!) as well as\nchanges in state legislation (which we will need to lobby for).<\/strong> We will\ncontinue to communicate with you about ways you can be part of these efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key Elements of the\nDraft Plan<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Power our electrical grid with 100% clean and renewable sources of\nenergy<\/li><li>Switch appliances and vehicles from gasoline, diesel, propane, and\nnatural gas to electric<\/li><li>Significantly improving the energy efficiency of homes, businesses,\nschools, places of worship, government buildings, and recreational sites<\/li><li>Reduce the miles we travel in our vehicles by at least 50%<\/li><li>Significantly change the way we use, reuse, and dispose of\nmaterials<\/li><li>Enhancing resilience<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Suggested Talking Points in addressing Council:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Thank you for voting last year to make Ann Arbor \u00e2\u20ac\u0153carbon\nneutral\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by 2030 &#8212; a timeframe consistent with what scientists have told us\nneeds to be done.<\/li><li>But a goal is not enough. Ann Arbor needs a plan and adequate\nresources to get us there.<\/li><li>The climate crisis demands urgent action, and\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153business-as-usual\u00e2\u20ac\u009d will not do the job.<\/li><li>Discuss one area of climate action that is especially important\nto you personally.<\/li><li>The City\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s draft carbon neutrality plan is extremely ambitious, but\nit is also do-able, and it meets the scale of the challenge.<\/li><li>It will take leadership from every one of us to make Ann Arbor\ncarbon neutral, and to rise up and solve the climate crisis. We look to you to\nbe a leader in your Ward and engage your constituents about it.<\/li><li>Please vote YES to approve the City\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s carbon neutrality plan.
