Run for Peace–becuase for peacemaking we need to be in it for the long haul

Peacemaking is not a quick thing. It is a marathon rather than a sprint.

To help learn those lessons, this year I’m running the Detroit Marathon on October 29 as a Run For Peace, a fundraiser for Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice.

After over forty years, ICPJ has shown that it is in the struggle for a just and peaceful world for the long haul. I hope that I show that much resilience after over forty kilometers.

My biggest fear in this run is that an ankle injury will get in my way. So, if you’re the prayin’ type, I welcome all prayers for my health during this run.

Also, if you’d like to join me on one of my training runs, drop me a line. Whether you’re up for 2 miles or 20, I wouldn’t mind the company.

And of course, it’s not too late to run yourself. The Detroit Marathon has 5k, half marathon, full marathon, and 5-person relays all going on that day.

    There are just four days until I run the Detroit Marathon as a fundraiser for Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice.

    This year’s run for peace will be better than last year’s in 3 key was ways:

    1. This year, I haven’t injured my back. That means I’ve actually done all my training and I’ll be ready to run 26.2 miles.

    2. My wife, Nancy, will be running the half marathon, also as a fundraiser for ICPJ. We get to share the fun, and whatever else comes with the run.

    3. You have more sponsorship options. Last year, people could only pledge by the race, by the mile, or if I made my target time. This year, you have two new options. You can:

    ___ FOR THE RACE. Donate $100, $50, or $25 for me or Nancy to complete the run.
    ___ BY THE MILE. Donate $10, $5, or $1 for each mile we run.
    ___ CHALLENGE CHUCK: Pledge to double your gift if make my target time of 3 hrs, 30 min.
    ___ IMPROVEMENT PAYS: Pledge $1, $2, or $5 for every minute I’m faster than last year’s time (4:30)
    ___ NO PAIN, NO GAIN: One ICPJ supporter pledged “for every ache and pain.” I’m sure I’ll have plenty, but I’m not going to go out and hurt myself just to raise more money for ICPJ.
